Socom offers two supervised internship positions per year, which run for one month at a time. While students are required to follow regular office hours, a certain flexibility for students with other working commitments is granted.
An internship at Socom is an opportunity to work with some of the industry’s most respected consultants, in a collaborative environment on exciting projects with a range of dynamic clients.
Socom’s internship program is designed to provide interns with the opportunity to gain practical experience in public relations; to help them develop their public relations skills, and become familiar with the Socom approach.
Interns will enjoy access to cutting edge resources with the opportunity to work within Socom’s well-established units of Media Relations, Community Relations and Government Relations.
Interns will be exposed and/or assist account teams with the following (not limited to):
- Press kit development
- Writing
- Media list development
- Research
- Media analysis
- Proposal development
- Client meetings
- Strategy and brainstorming sessions
Requirements
The Socom internship program is only available for undergraduate students studying a PRIA accredited public relations course. We seek individuals who have strong academic results, exceptional communication skills, good interpersonal skills, an eagerness to learn and the ability to show initiative.
Application Procedure
Those interested in Socom’s internship program should apply online by completing the application form. Outline why you would like to work with Socom and attach an essay (in Word document format) of up to 500 words outlining your career goals.
Once your application has been submitted online you will receive an email confirming that it has been successfully submitted to us. If you have not received this email within 48 hours of submitting your application please contact us on 03 8317 0111.
Selected applicants will then undertake an interview and the Socom writing exercise.
