The Interface Councils

Providing a voice for councils on the urban fringe

The Interface Councils (Cardinia Shire Council, City of Casey, Hume City Council, Melton Shire Council, Mitchell Shire Council, Mornington Peninsula Shire Council, Nillumbik Shire Council, City of Whittlesea, Wyndham City Council and Yarra Ranges Council)

Campaign:
The Interface Councils have a unique mix of high growth areas, highly productive rural lands and complex environmental responsibilities, with conservation land of state and national significance. The complex roles and issues faced by the Interface have traditionally not been well recognised and understood by Government, statutory authorities or service providers at both state and Commonwealth levels.

Our Approach:
Socom has represented Melbourne's ten Interface (urban fringe) Councils since 2001. We provide secretariat support and strategic advice, as well as preparing their communication materials, implementing campaigns and co-ordinating meetings with Ministers, Shadow Ministers, Departments, MPs and political parties at State and Federal Government level.

Results:
The roles of the Interface are being better recognised and understood by State Government through the Metropolitan Strategy and allocation of specific funding programs.
